PM-FPMS Near-Field Goniophotometer for Displays
View angle performance for flat panel displays
The PM-FPMS from Radiant Imaging combines a motorised goniometer stage with a ProMetric CCD imaging photometer to perform a near-field angular analysis of the luminance and colour from flat panel displays. PM-FPMS employs a ProMetric CCD imaging photometer to record spatially-resolved images of the near-field luminance emitted from the display. Spatially-resolved images of the source luminance are recorded for one angle of azimuth and elevation at a time. The associated, motorised goniometer stage scans the device under test over ± 88° in all directions. The Imaging Photometer DifferenceThe PM-FPMS system performs brightness and colour uniformity measurements as a function of viewing angle for flat panel displays. It is designed to provide accurate view angle performance measurement data for developers of LCD, PDP, OLED and LED displays, as well as of LED, CCFL and lamp-based backlights. Because the PM-FPMS system captures a full image of the display or component at each measurement angle, it provides much more comprehensive information than can be obtained from traditional spotmeter-based measurements.
Goniometer Frames for Small, Medium & Large DisplaysThe PM-FPMS goniometer frame is available in three sizes to accomodate different sizes of displays. The maximum size and weight of the device under test determine which goniometer frame you will need. The minimum sample size that a frame can accomodate is determined only by the field-of-view of the ProMetric imaging photometer and this can be selected through appropriate choice of lens. The ProMetric CCD Imaging Photometer/ColorimeterProMetric imaging photometers are available with a range of sensitivities and CCD pixel resolutions, from 10-bit to 16-bit (the ability to resolve from 1,024 to 65,536 levels of brightness) and from 512 x 512 up to 3,072 x 2,048 pixels. Interchangeable lenses are available to match the field-of-view of the imaging photometer to the size of the device under test. ProMetric software for the imaging photometer is also included which allows for the measurement of spatial luminance and colour. Fully Automated MeasurementsThe PM-FPMS control and analysis software provides full control over both the ProMetric imaging photometer and the FPMS goniometer, allowing definition and execution of a fully automated measurement sequence. The measurement data is preserved as a set of display images, capturing an image of the display or component at each viewing angle that is useful for isolating anomalous performance results. The PM-FPMS system software supports display performance analysis through an extensive variety of quantitative analyses. Analysis tools include isoplots, CIE colour plots and radar plots for any sampling area size and view angle. These tools eliminate the effect on the view angle measurements of the display as the imaging photometer views the display at increasing angles. Software corrects for the increase in measurement spot size as the display rotates which eliminates a major source of error associated with spotmeter-based measurements. In addition, the PM-FPMS system can perform mura defect detection at any view angle. In contrast, view angle measurements based on either a scanned spot detector or a Fourier lens system (such as a conoscope), can only provide data for a single spot size, and do not readily provide data on display spatial uniformity.
