Laser Safety Eyewear - Dielectric Coated Filters
The best of both worlds - light weight and high protection
LASERVISION's dielectrically coated reflective glass and plastic filters offer the best of both worlds, combining the light weight of plastic eyewear with the high optical densities and visible light transmission of mineral glass filters. Coated filters are produced by vapour deposition of dielectric interference layers onto a glass or plastic substrate. Individual dielectric layers must be applied to an accuracy of a few nanometers in order to precisely reflect the desired laser wavelength(s). As required in the BS EN 207 and BS EN 208 standards, the interference coatings completely block the intended laser wavelengths over a 30 degree range of incident angles. With the exception of the blocked laser wavelengths, nearly all other light passes through the filter without attenuation. This results in a filter with low coloration and high visible light transmission compared to broadband absorbing glass and plastic filters. This property of coated filters is extremely attractive in medical applications where good colour rendition is important. The protection afforded by filters which absorb incident laser radiation tends to be limited by thermal processes, whereas coated filters reflect the light to provide higher damage thresholds. This allows for the use of coated, light weight plastic filters against high average and high peak power lasers. Need help choosing your eyewear? Click here to jump to our enquiry form.
